Foundation for WOC (Women of Color) Revisited Part I

A while ago back in March I did a post on " Foundation for WOC ." In the post I referenced the April edition of Essence magazine. It was a foundation special in that article for women of color on pages 48-54. From March until now that particular post is my most viewed post according to Blogger stats. Since I featured general information in that post, I wanted to revisit the topic again with more detailed information. This will be a 2 part post. The first post will be on debunking the myths a lot of women have about foundation (not just women of color) and the second post will be foundation recommendations that have been proven to work well.  *The term WOC (women of color) includes but not limited to African American, Indian, Latino, Filipino and Hispanic women.* FOUNDATION MYTHS 1. Foundation will cause my skin to breakout - A. Before trying foundation it helps to know your skin type first! If your skin is oily you wouldn't want to purchase an oil-based foundati...

Fall's Hautest Trends in...makeup, colors and clothes!!!

Fall is officially here... that means clothes, makeup and styles are changing (for those of us who live in a cooler climate this time of year) with the help of several fashion authorities I've put together a list of the trends, styles and must have items for Fall. What are the must-wear colors this fall season? Chocolate, black , gray and military green are Fall's hottest colors. The most popular pop of color to wear this season is... fuchsia . Top Fall Trends for Clothing and Accessories: 1. Layered Jewelry- Pile the pieces on! Wearing multiple necklaces and bracelets add glam to any outfit. Make sure to have 1 bold, statement piece of jewelry and layer it with other pieces. Statement jewelry can be purchased anywhere. I love Claire's and Icing for jewelry and my most favorite place to shop for statement jewelry is from my own personal website :) http://www.cookielee.biz/gabrieljones Statement Necklaces 2. High Over the Knee Boots-High boots make your le...

Look of the Day-Green and Brown

GREEN AND BROWN I did this look last week. I was inspired by my green blouse. Green is my favorite color to use when doing eyeshadow (especially an all green look) because it layers so beautifully and you can always see how each green color blends into the other green color seamlessly. I used 4 shadows all together. I did a bit of experimenting with contouring and this was my first time using 2 shades of foundation to combat my two-tone skin, which turned out nice, surprisingly. My brows need to be done again, so excuse how they look. I didn't do any close up pics because of acne breakouts, (still struggling with adult acne) agrrh!  Products Used What I used: -Mac Oil Control Lotion -Mac Face and Body Foundation in C6 on inner part of my face (my skin is 2 different shades) -Mac Face and Body Foundation in C7 on outter part of my face -Mac Blotting Powder in Dark -Mac Format Blush to contour nose and cheeks -Elf brow kit in Medium -Mac Rubenesque (g...

Lipgloss of the Week

The featured lip gloss of the week that I've been wearing since yesterday (and I'm wearing it now as I type) is Elf's Hypershine lip gloss in Sugar Plum. I love Elf's Hypershine lip glosses. The colors are sheer, moisturizing, long lasting and inexpensive, they're only $1. I bought it from Target in the Elf cosmetics section. Swatch of Sugar Plum The final look! It's a pop of color but not overpowering.  CREDITS 1st picture courtesy of eyeslipsface.com Original idea for this post from Mocha Mish Mash's Blog

Feeling Inspired...Midnight Gold Eye Look

Lately I haven't been inspired to do any creative eye looks on myself, I've fell into the same boring colors and  and for me that's out of the norm. I've done a few good looks that I thought were worthy to put on my blog but because of camera issues the colors came out washed out, so I didn't post them. Anyway, a few days ago I received some new makeup that I bought and this put me in the mood to play around with some colors. I created a midnight gold eye look, it's nothing spectacular, very simple look using 2 eye shadows. I used this gold color from my eye palette pictured above. I used Club eyeshadow by Mac which is a duo chrome color, it's reddish-brown with green pearl. This is my favorite eyeshadow right now. Depending on what colors you wear with it, it can look green, blue or brown. I love it.  This is the final look, which was very simple. I used concealer as my highlight. I only did 1 eye because I was experimenting and did...

Beauty at Work....Work Place Makeup and Beauty

October 2010 Issue of Essence magazine This month's Essence article featured a great article on "Beauty on the Job" on pages 54-56. Everyone wants to look good at work but still maintain a professional, polished and natural appearance. Overdone and sometimes bold and colorful makeup can look out of place and unprofessional at work, so if you're like me wondering how to wear your makeup and still look professional this article is a must read.  Keep in mind this article is for those who have a more conservative workplace. If your work environment is more laid back and doesn't mind bold makeup then by all means, EXPERIMENT!   The tips and suggestions from this article are from Ashunta Sheriff, celebrity makeup artist. 1. Color in the workplace can be applied, just make sure to emphasize 1 feature so the color isn't overpowered.  For your eyes you can wear any color but instead of applying color to the entire lid maybe try a color close to the lash line on t...
