My Personal Do's and Don'ts of Makeup

I borrowed this great idea from my blogger friend, Jess, from Weighing Down on Beauty. Thanks again Jess for letting me use this idea! I, along with her and probably many others believe that there are makeup rules out there, we respect them but we don't always agree with them or follow them.

There are some rules that I do follow religiously as far as specific makeup application and improving makeup endurance but there are others that I bend and flex a little. This is just my personal list, don't feel like you have to follow any of my do's and dont's. Keep doing what works for you :)

MY DONT'S

  • I DON'T wear a full face of makeup every day (maybe gloss, mascara and eyeshadow).
  • I DON'T line my waterline.
  • I DON'T always set my foundation with powder.
  • I DON'T use a face primer regularly.
  • I DON'T always conceal my dark circles or blemishes, sometimes I like to let my imperfections show plus I don't want my face looking to perfect.
  • I DON'T apply mascara to my lower lash line.
  • I DON'T highlight and contour my face every day.
  • I DON'T throw out makeup when expected, For ex: mascara is supposed to be replaced every three months, I keep mine longer than that-usually until I get bored with it. I do apply this rule with my professional makeup kit.
  • I DON'T always apply blush to the apples of my cheeks.
  • I DON'T always fill in my brows, I don't always have the time for this plus they're naturally thick.
  • I DON'T always wear eyeliner.
  • I DON'T feel comfortable with people seeing me without makeup except for family and close friends.
MY DO'S

  • I DO wash my makeup off every night.
  • I DO wear lip liner with lipstick and gloss all the time.
  • I DO layer lipsticks with gloss.
  • I DO follow all eyeshadow application rules: blending, applying lightest to darkest shade first and etc.
  • I DO apply foundation to areas that only need it at times.
  • I DO wear eye primer for every eye look, even if I'm just wearing eye liner.
  • I DO moisturize my skin daily.
  • I DO apply foundation first and then concealer.
  • I DO conceal my huge birthmark on the left side of my face. Hopefully, you all can't see it in any of my LOTD's.
Disclaimer: These are my personal rules that  I do and don't follow, however; I am a makeup artist and I FOLLOW ALL makeup rules when it comes to my client's. The only time I don't follow a makeup rule with my client's is when they personally tell me not to ... their wish is my command :)

What are some of your do's and dont's? I would love to read them!

I find it sooo fascinating how we bond as makeup divas alike yet our personal do's and don't's are so interestingly different....love the idea of this post :) Have to think about mine so maybe I'll post soon.

Yeah, it is interesting how we all love makeup and sometimes we think "how can she not do that?" I know I think that sometimes but everyone has their preferences.

Can't wait to read your list!

haha Gabs, we are so much alike, it's too funny. I'm a huge fan of the 5-minute face, so I see myself in several of your "don'ts." I'll be back w/my list also.

A few of my don'ts include:

1.no full face daily. I'm fine w/gloss, liner (usually purple, brown, or navy). I have the MAC Icon Eyes from the Diana Ross collection (remember that?!) that is my go-to. I will be so sad when I use it up =( I should have bought at least two more!

2.I don't do liner or mascara on my lashline. My eyes are way too sensitive.

3.I don't use lipliner regularly. Matter of fact, I only own two. I think I look better when I use gloss w/o it.

My do's:

1.I always use some sort of primer on my lids. My eyelids are so oily that if I don't prime them, shadow just evaporates. I will use either my CoverFX concealor, my MAC concealor, Too Faced eye primer, or my Groundwork paint pot.

2.Even if I don't "wash" my face (sometimes it's just too late), I do use the face wipes and that removes everything.

@ Jess: Thanks!

@ Agent Elle: Love the list girl. We do have some similarities in our lists. I personally know about the eyeliner, I remember how your eyes watered when we were doing makeovers in school :)
