Hello, Dolls!
I attended The Makeup Show in NYC over the weekend! I haven't been in years, since before the pandemic. As you can imagine, I was excited to attend! For those that don't know, The Makeup Show is a makeup convention held annually for makeup artists and the like. In addition to the educational seminars held for learning, you can also purchase makeup and essentials, at a pro discount.
The Details
You can choose to attend one day or both days, I chose to attend on Saturday. The show was held for vaccinated attendees only. All brands and exhibitors were required to be vaccinated as well. Proof of vaccination (at least one shot) had to be shown upon entry. This happened to be my first event amongst a large crowd since Covid, so there was a measure of anxiety that I had, but it turned out well. I also chose to wear my mask the entire time, except to take the occasional pic.
At the show, there are several seminars and workshops (both free and for a fee) to further your expertise and skills. There are also a variety of makeup and beauty brands at the makeup show, from high end, luxury and indie brands. You can find almost anything that you need for makeup application, which includes makeup, brushes, skin care products, lighting systems, disposables and kit supplies.

What I love about The Makeup Show:
One of the things I love about The Makeup Show is being able to be amongst makeup artists and makeup lovers. I enjoy observing everyone's style of makeup. The entire time, I'm admiring and taking mental notes of looks and techniques that I want to practice. I also enjoy seeing the amazing displays of body painting and editorial makeup, I'm always in awe of the sheer talent that goes into the work.

What I learned:
There were two seminars that I took, they were: Complexion Work for Dark Skin Tones with Alphonse Wiebelt, and New Standards in Hygiene and Sanitation for Makeup Application with Kevin James Bennett, Courtenay Brodie & Jake Aebly. Since Covid, makeup sanitation has become more of a concern, (rightfully so) and more detailed.
A few tips that I learned about hygiene and sanitation were:
~Keep everything covered to prevent and decrease contamination.
~Have fresh brushes for each person you service.
~Take what you really need, this is important when you're working with smaller spaces.
~Have some type of cleaner to clean and disinfect makeup.
What I bought:
I never need any new makeup, but how can I resist buying any at a makeup show?! I bought two Melt eyeshadow palettes. I've been wanting to try Melt palettes for a while, but never have. I was able to get the Four Twenty and Smoke Sessions palette. I also got a bottle of Beauty So Clean sanitizer mist. Previously, I used alcohol to disinfect my makeup. After taking the Sanitation and Hygiene seminar, I learned that alcohol changes the formula of your makeup. I have definitely seen this to be true, especially with eyeshadow.
The rest of the products are freebies given by brands at the show! Another benefit of attending the show is being able to receive products as gratis. I was given hand sanitizer, lip balm, hair mask, and a hyperpigmentation serum. The books were also free! I've read several of Bobbi Brown's makeup books, so I couldn't resist passing up this one.
